About this file
This document is a Specification Document for a procurement request by the USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS) located in Bushland, TX, seeking an In Vitro Gas Production System. The agency requires one RFS RF Gas Production System, 45 RF1X Gas Production Modules, 50 RF37 250ml glass bottles, and 30 RF16 Gas Production Rechargeable Battery Packs. The system must enable wireless real-time data collection of gas production in individual bottles, with a measurement resolution of +/- 0.04 psi, ability to set internal gas pressure limits, collect gas for component analysis, run at least 50 bottles simultaneously, and export data to Excel.
The solicitation (Number 1232SA25Q0094) is structured as a combined synopsis/solicitation for a commercial supply purchase, with a target of awarding a single firm fixed-price purchase order. Quotes are due by 5:00 p.m. Central Time on June 09, 2025, and should be submitted via email to Shane Pope. The procurement is associated with NAICS Code 334516 and is intended to support the Livestock Nutrient Management Research Unit's experiments on cattle feed efficiency, specifically measuring gas production in simulated rumen conditions. The delivery/shipping address is USDA ARS CPRL, 2300 Experiment Station Road, Bushland, TX 79012, with a required delivery timeframe of 60 days after order receipt.

Summary of Procurement Request for a Supply Purchase
Requirement Name: In Vitro Gas Production System: (Brand Name RFS Gas Production System or Equal)
Suggested Method of Procurement: Open Market
POC: Lana Castleberry
Prior Contract: N/A
Required Delivery Date: 60 days after receipt of order
Specification Document General Information:
Background and Purpose:
The Livestock Nutrient Management Research Unit (LNMRU) at Bushland, Texas conducts experiments to determine how different types of diets and feed additives affect feed efficiency in beef cattle. Measuring the amount of gas that is produced in the rumen of cattle fed these diets is an important part of determining feed efficiency. For example, the production of methane in the rumen indicates a loss of energy to the growing animal. Using an in.vitro method (performed in bottles, rather than in a living organism) allows preliminary experiments to be conducted without subjecting animals to treatments by simulating conditions in the rumen. Compared to live animal experiments, in vitro experiments are fast, inexpensive, and allow for more treatments to be compared at once.
