Statement of Objective – Totara _ Next Gen LMS Professional Services

United States Department of Agriculture - Office of the Chief Information Officer

Background

USDA is moving from a SAP/SF/Plateau-based system to an Open Source Solution called Totara.

This move provides various benefits:

Lower cost – reduces budget pressures; can share costs with other fed orgs

More flexible – can modify the system more easily; can expand to non-traditional audiences

Better user engagement – more types of training activities; works natively on mobile devices

Easier to maintain – easier to administer; fewer client plug-ins

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) provides leadership on food, agriculture, natural resources, and related issues. With a staff of over 100,000 employees, one of the major challenges is improving and optimizing the skills and knowledge of this workforce. To assist with this challenge, the USDA utilizes a Learning Management System (LMS) branded as the Agriculture Learning (AgLearn) system. USDA has decided to change the underlying software that supports AgLearn, the Next Generation LMS project is the migration of AgLearn to the Totara LMS platform.
