J.6 CAMPING RULES AND REGULATIONS
The following rules and regulations shall govern the sanitation, cleanliness, location, and fire responsibilities on Contractor campsites located on the Olympic and Mt Baker Snoqualmie
National Forests.
A. SANITATION
1. Toilet facilities shall be self-contained having adequate capacity for all waste materials and wash water or be a commercial chemical unit.
2. Waste shall be disposed of at established disposal facilities.
B. CLEANLINESS
1. All material brought to the unit or camp area by the Contractor or his employees shall be removed by the Contractor prior to termination of the contract.
2. Camp area shall be kept free, at all times, of unsightly debris; e.g., loose papers, cans, bottles, boxes, etc.
3. All garbage shall be sacked and hauled by the Contractor to an approved disposal site.
4. Contractor shall not establish or use disposal sites on National Forest lands without written approval of the Contracting Officer.
C. FIRE RULES, REGULATIONS AND CONTRACTOR’S RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Open fire WILL NOT be permitted unless the necessary permits are obtained from the
District Fire Management Officer or his representative.
a. Fire permits are required between approximately April 15 and October 15, though dates may be extended depending on weather conditions.
2. Fire Requirements
a. Build campfire away from overhanging branches, steep slopes, rotten stumps or logs, dry grass and leaves. Pile wood away from the fire.
b. Scrape away litter, duff, and any burnable material in a 10-foot wide circle. This will keep a small campfire from spreading.
c. Never leave fire unattended. A breeze may come up while you're gone and spread the fire.
d. Keep campfire small. A good bed of coals or small fire surrounded by rocks gives plenty of heat for cooking.
3. Fire Tool Requirements
a. 1 shovel (#0 - round point)
b. 1 axe or Pulaski (#2 or over 26 in. minimum length)
c. Bucket (at least 1 gallon capacity)
d. At least one acceptable hand took for each person in camp.
Failure to abide by the above regulations will result in withholding of payment until provisions are satisfactorily met.
