NOTES:
1. The plan shown here is intended to represent the general dewatering requirements and not applicable to a specific site. The Contractor is required to submit a specific plan for each site.
2. Contractor to determine the size of the bypass pipe. Summertime base flow is estimated to be 2-4 CFS.
3. Ensure that the bypass pipe and dam are leak-proof. Construction shall not proceed until the implemented dewatering plan has been inspected and accepted by the CO in writing.
4. Ensure pumps are be clean and free of leaks and placed in a containment kit.
5. Excavate draw down pool for sumps a minimum of 2 feet below the bottom of the excavation and a minimum of 5 feet in diameter.
6. Maintain all elements of the operation in order to dewater the foundation, facilitate construction, prevent harm to aquatic organisms (not just fish) and prevent sediment and turbidity from entering the stream. The dewater system will be constructed in a manner which enables FS biologist to collect and transport organisms from the live channel, just before completion of the diversion dam.
7. Operate pumps (preferably electric) downstream of the bypass dam if the dam does not seal thoroughly. Maintain a pump running 24 hours a day in the downstream sediment retention dam to divert water containing sediment to the forest floor where it will be filtered before entering back into the stream.
Leave pumps in position on site even if water discharge drops considerably, to be prepared for storm flows.

NOTES:
1. Shape channel bed prior to installation of structural plate arch. Use native material meeting the gradation for the specified bed class salvaged from the excavation or imported material under Optional Item 64801A if sufficient suitable material is not available on-site.
2. Construct bank margins in culvert with approximately 60% by volume Channel Rock (6" - 12") intermixed with approximately 40% by volume Streambed Simulation Material to fill the voids.
Channel Rocks may be salvaged from the excavation or supplied from the Government Source.
Reconstruct transitions as necessary at the beginning and end of the culvert simulated streambed to facilitate a smooth transition to the existing streambed.

FOOTNOTES:
The spacing and configuration of rock ribs may be adjusted in the field by the CO to fit the actual streambed conditions. Rock structures to be constructed with 1 - 4 Channel Rocks (±12") buried 23 - 4 of their diameter.
Rib rock will be in contact with the adjacent piece and protrude ±3" from stream bed.
Vary direction, shape, and orientation of the Rock ribs. Ribs to be angled 30°± perpendicular to centerline of pipe.
Ribs oriented straight across the channel are not desirable.
Rock structures are schematic only and the configuration may vary as directed by CO. Wood structures may be installed in lieu of rock structures as directed by CO.

CONSTRUCTION NOTES
1. Provide clearing and grubbing of debris and vegetation present within areas as necessary to do the project. Cleared debris shall be scattered along fill slopes to provide slope stabilization.
2. The Contractor shall submit an erosion control plan including dewatering measures to the CO per FSSS 157. Refer to sheet ----for a sample dewatering plan. Most fish will be removed from site before construction by the government. If any additional fish are encountered, Contractor shall capture fish and place them safely downstream of the project.
3. Remove all large trees within construction limits with root wads intact and place in locations designated by CO.
STRUCTURE BACKFILL NOTES:
1. Limits of excavation are shown for information purposes only. Slope or shore as required for safety. The contractor is solely responsible for excavation support and compliance with all applicable OSHA regulations. TRENCHES 20 FT OR GREATER REQUIRE THAT THE PROTECTIVE SYSTEM BE
DESIGNED BY A REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER AND/OR APPROVED BY A REGISTERED
PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER.
2. Notify the CO immediately if bedrock or soft, unsuitable soils are encountered.
3. The estimated volume of structure excavation is based on the excavation limits shown in section 1/17 above. This quantity does not include any streambed simulation or earthwork necessary for stream channel re-grading.
4. Backfill limits shown here are the minimum requirements. Place backfill in accordance with FP-14 Section 209, and as shown on these Plans, with material meeting the requirements of Subsection 704.03a.
Compact backfill material in accordance with FSSS Subsection 209.10a Compaction Method 1. Any material outside the Backfill limits shown is considered Road Embankment and the material must meet the requirements of FP-14 Subsection 704.06.
5. It is assumed that material conserved from the structure excavation at this site will meet the requirement for Backfill (704.03a) or Road Embankment (704.06). Some mixing and sorting may be required to meet the material specification. Haul and dispose unsuitable and excess material to the designated waste site. Haul and disposal of unsuitable or excess material is indirect to Item 20804.
New aggregate surface course
Use material salvaged from the excavation meeting FP-14 material specification 704.06 outside of the Backfill limits shown.
Compact in accordance with FSSS Subsection 204.11b Placement Method 2.

1. A foundation investigation was NOT conducted at this site. Soils were assumed to be sands and gravels (GW, GP, SW, SP). Notify the CO immediately if bedrock, silts or very soft clay soils are encountered within the limits of the foundations shown in these PLANS. In no case should the footing be placed directly on large boulders, random outcroppings of bedrock, or soft soils without prior approval.
2. Prepare foundation in accordance with Section 208 of the Specifications. Foundation must be approved in writing by the CO prior to placing the leveling course.
3. The culvert footing was designed for a presumptive allowable bearing pressure of 3500 psf.
