About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document for the 2026 Ambulance Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract, addressing clarifications on vehicle requirements and operational standards.

The document clarifies five key requirements for ambulance vendors. DOT numbers are not specifically required; instead, section D.2.6 mandates annual USDOT certified vehicle inspections or current Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance inspections. DOT medical cards are only required for vehicles exceeding 26,000 pounds, consistent with Commercial Driver's License (CDL) regulations, and DOT health screenings similarly apply only to assets over 26,000 pounds. Private ambulance service vendors are not required to operate through public agencies for Forest Service contracting purposes; however, they must comply with applicable state laws, operate under appropriate medical direction, and satisfy all contract and operational requirements as determined by Incident Management and state and local regulatory requirements. The ambulance certificate or license submission requirement refers to state-issued documentation if a state licensing or certification requirement exists in the location of operation.

2026 Ambulance Q&A

1. Is there a requirement for DOT numbers on ambulances?

• D.2.6 Does not specifically call for a DOT Number. It requires: a) annual

USDOT certified vehicle inspection; or b) current Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance Inspection.

2. Is there a requirement for DOT medical cards on ambulances?

• Only for vehicles over 26,000 lbs, consistant with CDL regulations

3. Did I hear DOT health screenings are only required for assets over 26k lbs?

• Yes that is correct. Because the vehicle over 26,000 then a CDL is required, as well as the

Med Card

4. As a private Ambulance Service, do we need a public agency to do our dispatching for fires?

• Dispatching and operational requirements are determined by Incident

Management and State and local regulatory requirements. The Forest Service does not require a vendor to operate through a public agency for contracting purposes but vendors must comply with applicable state laws, operate under appropriate medical direction, and meet all contract and operational requirements.

5. What is this under the Ambulance IBPA? - "One (1) picture or file of the current ambulance certificate/license."

• This is the License or Certificate that is provided by the State of location if there is a State Licensing or Certifying requirement.
