Acceptance / Rejection of research animals

Government Agency’s Responsibility – Agency shall designate a responsible individual as the point of contact and shall schedule animal room reservations. After delivery the agency will isolate and quarantine animals for up to seven days during which the agency veterinarian will inspect all animals to ensure conformity to contract requirements. If illness or injury is detected, s/he will complete an animal incident report. If ringworm is detected, the agency veterinarian may treat the infected animal(s) for inclusion in the planned experiment, but this may result in eliminating the contractor from future animal requests. All animal incident reports will be faxed by the agency to the vendor within 48 hours after receipt.

Vendor’s Responsibility – Seller shall provide animals that meet previously described health criteria and shall deliver animals by the requested service date. If upon delivery animals do not meet specified criteria, seller will replace affected animals in the next shipment, or issue a credit within 48 hours to the agency, at the agency’s choice.

Rejection of Research Animals – Research animals will be evaluated within 7 days after arrival to determine if they meet required animal specifications. In the event of illness or death, an animal incident report will be written and faxed to the vendor within 48 hours after documentation.

Replacement of Research Animals – At the agency’s choice, the research animal(s) will be replaced at vendor’s expense or a credit issued within 48 hours after receipt of the animal incident report. Replacement will include associated costs of shipment.
