About this file

This file comprises Special Provisions issued by the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) Water in Maryland for the Greenbelt Road Large Valve Vault Replacement project. The project involves the replacement of approximately 340 feet of 30-inch Cast Iron Pipe (CIP) and 42-inch Prestressed Concrete Cylinder Pipe (PCCP), installation of 9 feet of 30-inch Ductile Iron Pipe (DIP), 331 feet of 42-inch DIP water mains, installation of a new 42-inch water valve vault, and demolition of an existing 36-inch valve vault located between Lakecrest Circle and the intersection of Lakecrest Drive and Greenbelt Road in Greenbelt, Prince George's County, Maryland. Sealed responses are due by 2:00 pm on Thursday, October 15, 2026, via WSSC's eProcurement Portal. The Special Provisions establish modified requirements for temporary facilities and controls, water distribution system materials, metal fabrications, and project signage, with specifications for project signs to be provided at the intersection of Greenbelt Road and Lakecrest Drive facing east.

The Special Provisions include detailed technical requirements for valve specifications, including a revision to valve size ratios for sizes ranging from 16 inches to 48 inches, and specifications for hatches and slab access doors designed for 300 psf live load capacity with reinforced aluminum covers and stainless steel hardware. The provisions also outline procedures for contractors to follow when encountering Lead Service Lines (LSL), Galvanized Requiring Replacement (GRR) service lines, or unknown service line materials during construction, requiring coordination with the WSSC Contract Manager and cessation of work until proper verification and replacement procedures are completed. The file does not specify pricing terms, set-asides, contract duration, or funding sources.
