Questions and Answers - 1132710 BARC B1180 Window Replacement

Question 1: Are the window dimensions available?

Answer 1: No.

Question 2: Is the building part of a historic registry?

Answer 2: No.

Question 3: Are the windows on multiple floors?

Answer 3: Yes.

Question 4: Are there permits that are needed to complete the job and if so, are they already in place?

Answer 4: No.

Question 5: Per the solicitation there are 32 windows that need to be replaced. We counted a total of 44 windows. It’s understood some will be boarded over, but we counted only 3 with ducts attached and most with air conditioning units that would leave fewer than 32 without either ducts or ac units. Is the count of the windows that need replaced off or can we get detail on the exact windows?

Answer 5: There are 43 exterior windows to be addressed. Double hung windows should be installed where the exhaust/condensate/air intake ducts are and boarded up in the opening of the windows to be able to be removed in the future once the central HVAC system is repaired. For openings that this not possible, it should be boarded up permanently.

Question 6: There are 12 smaller windows that are square that run near the ground that are too short for single hung. What do we do with those?

Answer 6: All windows, if possible, needs to be able to be opened.

Question 7: With those windows near the ground, they said the protective grate would be removed.

Would a tempered or laminated glass be needed or requested?

Answer 7: Tempered or laminated glass is preferred.

Question 8: Are drawings for the building available?

Answer 8: Drawings and photos have been added to the soliciation.

Question 9: Most of the lower Windows have Exterior Steel mesh protection covering the windows. For installation we would require this to be removed to install the windows securely. Please confirm if we can remove these mesh screens. Are we supposed to re-install these protection screens after the window installation? These steel screens are in a corroded state, should we repaint them if we are to install the screen back?

Answer 9: Do not reinstall the exterior steel mesh.

Question 10: Most of the upper-level windows have storm windows installed. Are we supposed to install storm windows, as the specification calls for single hung windows?

Answer 10: No.

Question 11: Some of the lower-level windows have window AC units installed. How are we addressing this? Can we board off the balance areas with boards? Are PVC materials acceptable? Since PVC does not aid corrosion.

Answer 11: Double hung windows should be installed where AC units are installed and boarded up in the opening of the windows to be able to be removed in the future once the central HVAC system is repaired. For openings that this not possible, it should be boarded up permanently. PVC materials acceptable.

Question 12: There is an opening below the main door landing, should we install a fixed window?

Answer 12: No.

Question 13: A few of the windows have exhaust/condensate/air intake ducts through the windows.

How are we addressing these?

Answer 13: Double hung windows should be installed where the exhaust/condensate/air intake ducts are installed and boarded up in the opening of the windows to be able to be removed in the future once the central HVAC system is repaired. For openings that this not possible, it should be boarded up permanently.

Question 14: A couple of windows appear to be recently installed. Are these two windows included in the scope of work?

Answer 14: Yes, replace all the windows.

Question 15: On the upper level, a small 1' X1' fixed ventilator is installed. Is this included in the SOW?

Answer 15: No.

Question 16: Are we supposed to install trim on the inner side after the windows are replaced?

Answer 16: No.

Question 17: Will the building be occupied during the installation?

Answer 17: The building will be occupied.
