About this file

This document contains Questions and Answers related to a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for microscopes and compatible accessories.

The key details are:

  • The RFQ requires both reflected LED and UV illumination for fluorescence detection, as well as a flexible-arm LED spot illuminator.
  • For the stereo microscope, it requires compatibility with achromatic, plan, or plan-apo objectives, but does not need a transmitted light base.
  • The transmitted light microscope requires a dry-top condenser lens for bright field observation, and does not need oil immersion objectives.
  • The procurement is being conducted by the Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service under Solicitation Number 1118070_RFQ.

Questions with Answers (4/1/24)

FLUORESCENT MICROSCOPE:

Q: States includes multiple sources of illumination (LED and UV) but gives no indication of what type if any transmitted light source is needed. Do they want transmitted light or reflected or both?

A: It requires both sources of illumination. The UV system is for detecting fluorescence and the LED is the bright light source for capturing the images of specimens.

LED Spot Illuminator:

Q: It states: LEDs at the end of 400+ mm flexible arms (minimum of 2 arms) Please confirm I think they mean an LED light source with 400mm arms with focusing spot lens at the end of the arms. In order to have LED’s at the END of the 400mm arms they would need to run a cable through the arms to the LED’s which I do not believe is the case.

A: We are looking for an accessory that supplies its own light source through the flexible arms to act as spotlights.

STEREO MICROSCOPE:

Q: Please confirm if they want a transmitted light base or something different. Also, it states: Suitable for achromatic, plan or plan-apo objectives. But what type do they want on this Stereo Microscope? Please be specific.

A: It does not need to have a transmitted light base but should be compatible with the phenotypic and/or operational examination of insects.

TRANSMITTED LIGHT SCOPE:

Q: Need better insight into what type of illumination is needed; a high output LED illumination system to run DIC, phase and DF or something else?

A: Based on current operations, this illumination does not need to be upgraded for DIC or phase contrast.

Q: It states: Universal condenser which allows for dry and immersion observation, bright field, optional light rings for darkfield and phase contrast, and an empty 5-position condenser disc. But, gives no indication of any inserts that are needed OR if they want a dry top lens or oil top lens for condenser or BOTH.

A: It requires dry top lenses for the condenser for bright field observation.

Q: Also states: Oil immersion objectives Minimum magnifications: 4x, 10x, 20x, 40x, and 100x Please confirm if they want just the 100x oil or something else as there is no company that has a 4x oil etc.

A: Scope change - It does not require oil immersion lens.
