About this file
This document contains a sources sought notice and related federal contract opportunity for the purchase of microscopes and accessories. The USDA APHIS is seeking sources to provide three different microscopes including a fluorescent microscope, stereomicroscope, and transmitted light microscope along with required accessories such as objectives, filters, illuminators, and cameras. Interested sources are requested to provide company information and capability statement by March 15, 2024 to the contracting specialist via email. The North American Industry Classification code is 333310 for medical, precision and optical instruments manufacturing with a small business size standard of 1,000 employees. This is a market research notice to identify potential suppliers prior to issuing a formal solicitation for the microscope equipment needed at the Moore Air Base in Edinburg, Texas.

Project Microscopes
1.0 Scope of Work
Purchase of microscopes and associated accessories for IMMDL
2.0 Background
The Insect Management and Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory (IMMDL) is responsible for developing and validating technologies used to detect and diagnose plant pests. The focus of the laboratory’s diagnostic work is on insects that cause damage directly to plants or that serve as vectors of plant disease, but molecular biological methods are also used to support production of beneficial insects through detection of insect pathogens in rearing populations. This laboratory also identifies, develops, and provides technology transfer of a wide range of scientific methods to PPQ and State departments of agriculture, geographic information systems, biological control, area-wide pest management, and sterile insect technology (SIT) support for the Mexican fruit fly eradication program. In addition, the laboratory leads the agency’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) initiative to develop methods for the successful incorporation of new UAS technologies into PPQ programs.
