STATEMENT OF WORK

For Childbirth Education Class Contract

The scope of this contract is to provide childbirth, infant care, sibling, breastfeeding and childbirth refresher classes at the WRNMMC Department of OB/GYN. The instructors shall be provided by the contractor who is also responsible for supervising and training instructors; evaluating and revising curricula; researching and writing new curricula and handouts and interfacing with the contract sponsor at the WRNMMC. Infant care, breastfeeding and childbirth class curricula will be updated periodically to be kept current on hospital practices and procedures and the latest evidence-based practices and research.

CONTRACTOR PROVIDES

The contractor will provide WRNMMC a total of 54 hours of prenatal classes per month. Classes are attended by individuals and/or couples. Each instructor will distribute and collect patient satisfaction surveys at the end of every class to the individuals and couples for tabulation and analysis. Each individual or couple in a class shall be provided with one class survey form. The forms are devised by the WRNMMC staff. The instructor will turn in these surveys at the end of every class to a location determined by the designated clinic representative.

The prenatal classes will be offered in five areas relating to pregnancy and parenting: childbirth education, infant care, educating siblings-to-be, breastfeeding, and refresher childbirth classes (for couples who have children).

The contractor and WRNMMC personnel will work together to determine the length and frequency of each class.

The contractor will provide curricula for the class topics listed above. These curricula will incorporate WRNMMC policies and procedures as well as current, research-based information. If the WRNMMC representative desires new curricula in the topic areas listed above, the contractor will work closely with WRNMMC personnel to develop new, standardized curricula in those topic areas. The contractor will write the new curricula. These curricula will incorporate WRNMMC policies, practices and procedures as well as current, research-based information.

The contractor may also suggest new curricula to the WRNMMC representative for the representative’s approval or disapproval. New curricula must be within the 54 hour limit for monthly classes unless WRNMMC agrees to expand the program and scope of the contract.

The contractor will work closely with WRNMMC to choose and/or develop new standardized handouts for the new curricula. The contractor will write any new handouts developed.

The contractor will update curricula and/or handouts when a change in WRNMMC policies, practices or procedures occurs and/or if there are new, relevant research findings.

The contractor shall provide a sufficient number of instructors to teach all classes.

Assigned childbirth instructors will have certifications in the field from a recognized childbirth certifying organization (Lamaze International, the International Childbirth Education Association [ICEA], or the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association [CAPPA]), or a comparable organization, or will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the field of childbirth education or obstetrics.

Breastfeeding instructors will have a certification from the International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA) or a comparable organization, or will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the field of lactation education or obstetrics.

All instructors will be required to use the curricula and handouts provided by the contractor.

WRNMMC will purchase all equipment and supplies, both durable and consumables that are necessary for the classes. This includes AV equipment and supplies. WRNMMC will also supply the classrooms and storage space for all equipment and supplies.

Once the contractor has received the roster for a class, the contractor will contact each individual registered to remind them of the class and give them information on when and where to meet the instructor.

In the event of foul weather or class cancellation without a replacement instructor, the contractor, if she receives the roster, will contact the patients to reschedule or to notify them of class cancellation. Any classes that have to be canceled will be rescheduled.
