STANDARD FORM 30 (REV. 11/2016)
ATTACHMENT NO. 1 RFI RESPONSES
Question No. 1: Line items 02100(02), 02100(03) and 03300(01C) are all listed as Lump Sum Pay Units yet they have a Qty in order of 4, 3 and 7. With the majority of Lump Sum line items listed with 1 qtys, I wanted to clarify what these numbers are referring to. Does the 4 mean we are bidding on a LS for 4 septic tanks, 3 means the LS for 3 septic tanks and 7 would mean the LS for 7 different sidewalks?
Response No.1: Per specification section 01010 Summary of Work, paragraph 1.2.A.3, a Lump Sum (LS) is defined as one complete unit, which may consist of one or more parts. Pricing for item 02100(02) should consist of demolition of one septic tank, paid for at each of four locations. Pricing for item 02100(03) should consist of demolition of both a septic tank and a dosing tank which make up one sewer system; paid for at each of three locations. Pricing for item 03300(01C) should consist of all work to construct sidewalks around one set of two double vault toilets; paid for at each of seven locations.
Question No. 2: Will the concrete sidewalks be considered structural concrete that will need independent testing?
Response No. 2: Per specification section 03300 Cast-In-Place Concrete, paragraph 3.14, and as stated in the schedule of items for pay items 03300(01A), 03300(01B), 03300(01C), and 03300(02), construction of sidewalks includes independent concrete testing.
Question No. 3: Existing Grades and ADA Compliance - Per Section C Description/Specification/Statement of Work paragraph C.1 Scope of Contract states "Construction of ADA accessible concrete sidewalks around new double vault toilet building". At Tillie Creek Campground site #6, the new vault toilets existing elevation is much higher than the existing asphalt elevation. What if the existing grade will not allow the new sidewalks to be ADA compliant as shown on the drawings?
Response No. 3: Construct the sidewalk as shown on drawing sheet 9, matching the asphalt elevation at one end and the toilet elevation at the other end. If ADA compliance is not fully satisfied, that is acceptable.
Question No. 4: Tillie Creek Campground Access - Contractor went to Tillie Creek Campground to see the project. The road to sites 5, 6 & 7 is blocked by pipes and debris. Will the Forest Service clear the roads prior to construction?
Response No. 4: Toilets 5, 6, and 7 are located in the back portion of the campground behind locked gates made of steel pipe. Access through the locked gates will be provided and roads will be cleared of debris.
Question No. 5: Camp 9 Backfill Septic System - Per the specification all septic tanks are to be demolished 2' below ground surface. The septic tank located at Camp 9 by the fish cleaning station is located in the existing road.
Question 5(a): Can this septic tank be pumped, cleaned, 4" hole punched in bottom and then filled with slurry? This tank would not be demolished 2' below grade.
Response No. 5 (a): Backfill with slurry as proposed is acceptable.
Question 5(b): If slurry is approved, when the existing steel lid is removed can the asphalt be patched with concrete? The patch would only be approximately 3'x'3 and can be colored black.
Response 5(b): As stated in the schedule of items description for item 02100(01), repairing the paved surface with concrete is acceptable.
