About this file

This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the purchase of a HistoCore tissue processing system from Leica Microsystems, Inc. by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS). The SOW provides background on the laboratory's need for updated tissue processing equipment, and outlines the specific requirements, tasks, deliverables, and schedule for procuring and installing the new system. It states that Leica's HistoCore system is the only one that meets the laboratory's research needs. The related federal contract opportunity is a sole source justification to acquire the HistoCore system from Leica. The opportunity identifies the specific products, quantities, and power requirements. It notes that NIEHS intends to negotiate this acquisition on a sole source basis with Leica.

1.0 INTRODUCTION/OVERVIEW

We are requesting to purchase the HistoCore system from Leica (HistoCore PEARL tissue processor with HistoCore Arcadia H 100) for our research needs with 2024 Unmet Need Funds.

This system allows for the processing of fixed tissue into paraffin blocks for further sectioning and analysis, a key procedure we require to perform in our lab.

1.1 BACKGROUND

Our laboratory requires tissue processing and embedding to perform research. Our current system is a Leica (14+ years old) and this older model requires the use of a chemical hood. In addition, it quite large and takes all the space in the hood which we currently need for other experiments. The alternative is to renovate the laboratory to include a new hood but that is quite expensive and time consuming. This system also has a small footprint and we can accommodate it in the space we currently have in the lab. . The Leica system in this request is the only one that meets our specific research needs. The system dehydrates, cleared and paraffinizes tissue without the requirement of a chemical hood, and allows for the embedding of tissue into paraffin in tissue cassettes.

1.2 SCOPE

We will purchase the equipment from Leica through Government Sceintific Source, Inc that will deliver and install the equipment.

1.3 OBJECTIVES

The objective is to obtain this equipment and start using it to conduct research relevant to NIH mission.
