About this file

This statement of work describes a toxicity study to be conducted for the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences Early Translational Branch. The contractor will determine the maximally tolerated dose and relative toxicity of a lead molecule in male and female rats treated orally once daily for 14 days, followed by a 15-day recovery period. The contractor will also determine the toxicokinetics of the test compound following single and multiple administrations. The period of performance is 8 weeks from contract award. The contractor must furnish all necessary services, personnel, materials, and facilities to complete the study. The government will provide the test compound and review the final report. The sole deliverable is a written study report to be provided to NCATS by email. All data and materials produced will be the sole property of the government.

Version 11-30-2016-1 FAR Part 11—Describing Agency Needs

STATEMENT OF WORK (SERVICES)

(SOW)

GENERAL INFORMATION

Title of Project:

Maximally tolerated dose (MTD) and 14-Day Dose Range-Finding (DRF) Toxicity Study in Male and female rats for NCATS ETB.

Statement of Need and Purpose:

This requisition is to determine the maximally tolerated dose and relative drug toxicity of a lead molecule in male and female rats treated orally once daily for 14 days, followed by a 15-day recovery period, and to determine the toxicokinetics of the test compound following single and multiple administrations.

Background Information and Objective:

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is the nation’s leading medical research agency and the primary Federal agency whose mission is to seek fundamental knowledge about the nature and behavior of living systems and the application of that knowledge to enhance health, lengthen life, and reduce illness and disability, conducting, supporting and making medical discoveries that improve people’s health and save lives. The National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) is a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which mission it is to catalyze the generation of innovative methods and technologies that will enhance the development, testing, and implementation of diagnostics and therapeutics across a wide range of human diseases and conditions. The Early Translational Branch (ETB) is tasked with identifying and developing novel small molecule leads for improving human health.

In pursuit of this goal, the Center has a strong internal trans-disciplinary team of scientists who continually discover novel small molecules to modulate molecular targets to identify novel treatment strategies. As such, discovering lead molecules that could serve as starting points for therapeutic development for patients is a key part of discovery. At ETB we have developed a small molecule inhibitor to combine with immunotherapy for treating advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. It is essential to identify possible toxicity in an earlier stage before filing IND enabling studies. Therefore, we would like to analyze one compound in a 14-day tox study and determine the Maximum tolerability dose in rats.

Period of Performance:

The Period of Performance (PoP) is 8 weeks from the contract award and receipt of the materials.
