DESCRIPTION / WORK STATEMENT / SPECIFICATION
FOR
Puller Tool and Hydraulic Power Systems for Cold Expansion of Holes in Metal
1.0 Scope:
This specification establishes the requirements for a quantity of two Hydraulic Puller Tool and Hydraulic Power Unit systems used to cold expand the diameters of holes in various metals by placing a pre-lubricated stainless steel split sleeve in the hole then pulling a mandrel through the pre-lubricated stainless steel split sleeve. All safety mechanisms such as on/off switches, remote control devices, slings, carry straps, covers for hoses & cords, and safety stickers shall be provided.
Scope Changes. The Contractor shall not proceed with any verbal or written change(s) to the scope of work from sources other than the Contracting Officer, who will provide changes in writing.
2.0 Hydraulic Puller Tool Requirements
The Hydraulic Puller Tools shall be the most recent version Medium Brute Puller Unit, model number MB-70, manufactured by Fatigue Technology, Inc. or equivalent.
2.1 Hole Diameter and Metal Thickness/Stackup Capability
The Puller Tools shall be capable of cold expanding holes up to 15/16 inches in diameter in aluminum and mild steel and up to 3/4 inches in diameter in titanium and high strength steel.
The Puller Tools shall be capable of cold expanding holes in metal up to 7 inches thick/stackup with a mandrel stroke of up to 8.9 inches.
2.2 Pulling Force
The maximum pull force shall be 24,000 pounds at 10,000 psi of supplied hydraulic pressure.
2.3 Accessories:
The Puller Tools shall include a 10-foot hose assembly, all specialty tools needed to change mandrel sizes and/or maintain the Puller Tool, and all adapters needed for different mandrel sizes.
3.0 Hydraulic Power Unit Requirements
The Hydraulic Power Units shall be the most recent version FT-200D Series PowerPak manufactured by Fatigue Technology, Inc. or equivalent.
The Hydraulic Power Units shall utilize an air-operated hydraulic pump that generates up to 10,000±500 psi hydraulic pressure. An external pressure regulator may be used to limit the maximum pressure output. The air motors shall be driven by compressed air at 90 to 120 psi and 40 to 50 cubic feet per minute flow through a 1/2-inch inside diameter air hose. Each unit shall have a self-contained hydraulic fluid reservoir with a capacity of 2 U.S. gallons or more. Each unit shall have an integrated hydraulic fluid filtering system. Each unit shall be mounted on a cart and/or have castor wheels enabling ease of movement.
4.0 Installation:
Each Pulling Unit and Hydraulic Power Unit shall be shipped as a whole with all related components.
Depot mechanics will fill each reservoir with hydraulic fluid, connect each unit to the shop’s air supply, interchange components as needed, and perform first time start-up procedure as defined in the operations and maintenance manuals. The manufacture representative will be contacted if any components are damaged, unserviceable, or missing.
5.0 Warranty:
Each Pulling Tool, Hydraulic Power Unit, and related components shall have a warranty period of at least 12 months from the shipment date. A prepaid freight return shall be included for any components deemed unserviceable and a replacement will be shipped via ground transport.
6.0 Instruction and Maintenance Manuals:
Instruction and Maintenance Manuals shall be provided both electronically (download, 1 copy) and hardcopy (3 printed copies).
Manuals shall be in the English language and delivered with equipment.
7.0 Delivery:
Each Pulling Unit and Hydraulic Power Unit shall be shipped within 90 calendar days of contract award.
