About this file
This document provides salient characteristics for two CNC Vertical Mills to be procured by Luke Air Force Base, Arizona. The mills must include features such as a 52" x 18" table, 30 HP spindle up to 12,000 RPM, rapids up to 1400 IPM, and coolant flood system. Required options include a 4th axis, high speed machining, wireless probing system, enhanced remote jog handle, 50-tool side changer, chip conveyor, lighting, programmable coolant nozzle, and expanded memory. Accessories such as a chip tray filter kit and work table light must also be provided. Quotes must be emailed to the listed point of contact no later than 4 August 2022. All questions are due by 21 July 2022. Funds have not been obligated for this procurement, and the Air Force reserves the right to cancel the solicitation before or after the closing date without reimbursement to offerors.

Salient Characteristics – CNC Vertical Mill
Features:
- Super Speed Vertical CNC Machining Center
- Min. 50”X axis, 20” Y axis, 25” Z axis travel
- Max Operating Size of 170”w x 140”d x 124”h
- 40 taper spindle
- 30 HP vector drive 12,000 revolutions per minute (rpm), 90ft-lb @2000 rpm, inline direct drive
- Table Size 52” x 18” – 1,750 lb max load
- Electronic Thermal Compensation to compensate for the expansion and contraction of each linear axis.
- High-speed 30+1 side-mount tool changer
- 1400 ipm (35.6 m/min) rapids
- Max Cutting 833 in/min (21.2 m/min)
- 55-gallon (208 liter) flood coolant system
- Window Air Blast
- Controller Features: - 15" color LCD monitor, Media Display M-Code; M130, Window Air Blast, Graphic Dry Run, Self-Diagnostics, Wi-Fi Interface, Ethernet Interface, USB Port, Memory Lock Keyswitch, Rigid Tapping, Advanced Pocket Milling, Tool Life Management, Background Editing, 1 GB Program Memory and Power Failure Detection Module
- 220-240VAC 3-Phase power requirement
Required Options:
- Fully integrated 4th Axis
- High Speed Machining option for faster feed rates, more complex toolpaths without hesitation or starving the machine and reduces cycle times. Up to 1200 ipm. Ability to accept ISO standard G-code from all major CAM systems
- Wireless Intuitive Probing System allowing set-up up to 5 times faster. Can define work offset coordinates, set tool length offsets, and perform in-process inspection within the program for both part inspection and tool breakage. Includes macros, spindle orientation and coordinate rotation and scaling. Includes the Haas Visual Programming System, macros, spindle orientation and coordinate rotation and scaling options.
- Enhanced Remote Jog Handle with touchscreen display, an 11-button keypad, a triple-knob motion-control system that allows infinitely variable jog speeds, and a built-in LED inspection light. Operators can move the machine axes around while in a position to see what is happening up-close. Eliminates operator movement back and forth between the work area inside the machine and the control pendent outside the machine. Operators can set tool and work offsets, jog up to 9 axes, display machine position, show the current program running and much more from the jog handle.
- The high speed, servo driven side-mount tool changer holds 50 tools, plus one in the spindle, to increase productivity and reduce setup times. A high-speed double-arm gripper swaps tools quickly. Locating the tool changer outside of the work envelope frees up additional workspace, helps keep tools and tool pockets outside of the machine and away from contamination, and adds greater flexibility when using large fixtures or rotary tables.
- Auger-style chip conveyor automatically removes chips from the machine while compressing them and wringing out the coolant. The system automatically reverses if a jam occurs.
- The High-Intensity Lighting option utilizes two (2) super-bright LED lights that can be adjusted to the perfect location to illuminate machine workspace. The lights turn on automatically when the doors are opened and turn off when closed. They can also be turned on/off manually.
- Boost productivity, reduce cycle times and eliminate the opening and closing of the mill doors to adjust coolant lines. The Programmable Coolant Nozzle is a multi-position nozzle that automatically directs coolant precisely at the cutting tool. The position of the nozzle is controlled via the program and set specifically for each tool length – saving operator time by eliminating constant adjustments. The nozzle position may also be adjusted manually from the control pendant while a program is running.
- Expanded on-board solid-state memory allows storing, running, and editing large programs directly at the machine. Eliminates security risks posed by external storage devices such as USB Thumb-Drives and SD Disks.
Accessories:
- Chip Tray Filter Kit: supplemental chip strainer kit keeps chips from entering the coolant system.
Includes a 200-micron filter and metal chip tray basket
- Work Table Light
- IUID tag plate per MIL-STD-130x
- Must include freight, rigging, installation, fluids, anchoring
- Startup and training provided by vendor
