About this file

The document is an Aircraft Fuselage Lifting System - Salient Characteristics document that provides an overview of a versatile lifting system designed to facilitate the safe and efficient recovery of aircraft that have suffered damage to their nose section or undercarriage. The key characteristics include low maintenance requirements, flexible and customizable configurations to accommodate various aircraft sizes, and the use of beams with distinct load ratings of 24 tons and 50 tons. The system allows the beams to operate independently within the same configuration, enhancing flexibility and efficiency in lifting operations.

The related federal contract opportunity is a Sources Sought notice issued by the 502d Contracting Squadron, JBSA Lackland Air Force Base, for the procurement and installation of a Fuselage Lifting System for the 433d Crash Damaged Disabled Aircraft Recovery (CDDAR) program. The solicitation is seeking parties with the resources to provide the required lifting system, which features the modifiable beams as described in the Salient Characteristics document. The contract is expected to be awarded as a Firm-Fixed Price (FFP) contract, and the applicable NAICS code is 336413 - Aircraft Fuselage, Wing, and Tail, and Similar Aircraft Parts Manufacturing. Interested parties are invited to submit responses to the Sources Sought notice by Monday, August 12, 2024.

Aircraft Fuselage Lifting System - Salient Characteristics Document

System Overview:

The Aircraft Fuselage Lifting System is designed to facilitate the safe and efficient lifting of aircraft that have suffered the loss of their nose section or undercarriage in accidents. This versatile system offers a range of configurations to accommodate various aircraft sizes and recovery scenarios.

Key Characteristics:

1. Maintenance Requirements:

Type: Virtually maintenance-free.

Schedule: Annual visual inspection or after each use, to be conducted by an approved lifting specialist. The inspection should focus on welds and joints to ensure integrity.

2. Flexibility and Customization:

Capability: The system allows for numerous assembly configurations to suit a wide range of aircraft recovery needs.

Adjustability: Specific sling lengths may be necessary, and the system can be adapted to fit almost any aircraft type involved in a recovery operation.

3. Beam Types and Specifications:

Small Diameter Beam (GREEN):

Load Rating: 24 tons (52,896 lb)

Primary Use: Mainly for Category 1 group of aircraft.

Large Diameter Beam (RED):

Load Rating: 50 tons (110,200 lb)

Primary Use: Designed for heavier aircraft or situations requiring higher load capacity.

Interchangeability: Components marked with red identification are not interchangeable with those of the green beam. Each beam type serves specific purposes and should be used accordingly.

4. Operation:

Independence: Beams within the system can operate independently within the same configuration, enhancing flexibility and efficiency in lifting operations.

Conclusion:

The Aircraft Fuselage Lifting System stands out as a robust and adaptable solution for aircraft recovery operations, particularly in cases involving undercarriage or nose section damage. Its low maintenance requirements, coupled with the ability to customize configurations and the use of beams with distinct load ratings, make it an invaluable tool in the aviation industry.
