Describe in detail why only this source can furnish the requirements to the exclusion of other sources.
(what specific characteristics of the supplies or services limit the availability to a sole source (e.g., unique features, function of the item, etc.)?)
The USNA STEM Center teaching modules are based off of the Sphero programmable robots. The STEM curriculum was designed around the capabilities and characteristics of those specific robots. That they have more academic Capabilities than other robots that we have seen. The Sphero was chosen specifically because it graphs all of the movements of the robot. Once a program is run, sensor data then graphs the movement on an X-Y axis from which students can pull off
Source Selection Information – See FAR 2.101 and 3.104 dimension data to calculate area and perimeter. The graph can also be used with many geometry concepts from elementary to high school. In addition to the X-Y location graph, the Sphero BOLT graphs velocity over time, acceleration over time, and distance over time. All of these graphs can be combined with the coding aspects to reinforce the learning of many topics across all school ages. No other robot resource provides this graphing data capability along with the coding aspect together. To use another programmable robot would require a complete rewrite of the STEM curriculum, which would require recertification, and would not provide the capabilities stated above.
The following are provided as potential examples of reasons to support soliciting from a single source. If these items do not apply, the check-a-blocks may be deleted from the document. The user should include the appropriate rationale for the selected item(s).
