STATEMENT OF WORK
United States Naval Academy Acoustics and Vibrations lab
I. Mission
The official mission statement of the Naval Academy is "To develop Midshipmen morally, mentally, and physically, and to imbue them with the highest ideals of duty, honor, and loyalty in order to graduate leaders who are dedicated to a career of naval service and have potential for future development in mind and character to assume the highest responsibilities of command, citizenship, and government." Implied within this mission is the necessity to attract the most qualified Midshipmen candidates, which can only be accomplished by maintaining and promoting the Naval Academy's unique strengths and opportunities it provides these future leaders. The ability to maintain positive relationships with community leaders, parents, fleet personnel, alumni, supporters, the academic community and the general public is critical to branding the Naval Academy's status as a premier institution. These responsibilities are executed both from the perspective of a military command and as an institution of higher education. The Naval Academy, as an undergraduate institution, will execute programs similar to other public/private colleges and universities consistent with common business practices.
II. Background The US Naval Academy requires a modal exciter kit and force transducers delivered to the USNA Acoustics and Vibrations Lab. The itemized equipment to be delivered:
· Modal Exciter Kit (Qty. 1)
· Force transducer: Low force (Qty. 1)
· Force transducer: Medium force (Qty. 1)
· Force transducer: High force (Qty. 1)
The equipment is pre-built and shall be fully functional when connected together at the United States Naval Academy. It shall support scholarly research projects studying acoustics and vibrations and midshipmen involvement shall be sought-out. In particular, this equipment enables the excitation of vibratory systems with the modal exciter kit. Additionally, the force transducers enable the measurement of the applied force from the modal exciter. Different model force transducers enable the measurement of a range of force magnitudes. The low, medium, and high force ranges will measure different maximum force amplitudes with different analog-to-digital resolutions. In general, the equipment shall be accurate, reliable, and durable. Using standard BNC cables, the equipment shall also interface with the data acquisition equipment Matthew Fronk is acquiring for his lab. There are no applicable Government drawings, testing/certifications, instructions, and mil-specs for this equipment.
III. Delivery Location
The equipment shall be delivered to the Acoustics and Vibrations lab at the United States Naval Academy. The required delivery date is 30 Sep 2022. The complete delivery address is
US Naval Academy 572c Holloway Road Chauvenet Hall Room 041 Attn: Matthew Fronk Annapolis, MD 21402
The delivered equipment shall be connected together through standard BNC cables. This equipment shall also interface with a data acquisition system through standard BNC cables. Various research projects shall be supported by this equipment. Midshipmen shall have opportunities to participate in this research through courses offered at the United States Naval Academy.
The primary point of contact is Assistant Professor Matthew Fronk fronk@usna.edu 410-293-6666
