About this file
This document is a Job Specification for repair work on the No.4 Ship Service Diesel Generator (SSDG) Component aboard the USS TRIPOLI (LHA-7), prepared by the Ship Repair Facility (SRF) in Sasebo, Japan. The anticipated award date is July 24, 2026, with production completion scheduled for October 2, 2026. Work is scheduled to commence August 17, 2026 and conclude November 30, 2026.
The scope encompasses comprehensive overhaul and repair of multiple SSDG support systems including: the Combi-Cooler Assembly (with replacement of 67 channel plates and 2 transition plates); the Crankcase Exhauster System with its electric motor; the Intake Air Cooler; the Inlet Preheater; the Jacket Water Keep Warm (JW KW) Pump and its associated 1.5 HP electric motor; the JW KW Heater (40 KW); the Lube Oil (LO) KW Heat Exchanger; and the LO KW Pump with its 5 HP electric motor. Work includes cleaning, inspection, parts replacement, motor testing, balancing, insulation resistance testing, and operational verification. The specification references multiple technical manuals, engineering drawings, and test procedures. A detailed material list totaling 209 line items specifies government-furnished materials including o-rings, gaskets, valves, bearings, pumps, and various sealing and lubricating compounds. All work requires government checkpoint witness by code S280, with final operational testing and heat run testing documented through enclosed test procedures (TP Files 34214-3-100_25401 and 34214-3-100_25401A). The document includes comprehensive examination, test, and repair action record requirements per referenced appendices to ensure all equipment meets acceptance criteria before completion.

4-2 To prevent injury or death, ensure that proper test equipment is used during testing.
4-3 Safeguarding of personnel and equipment shall be adhered to at all times.
5. SHIPBOARD TEST
5-1 PRELIMINARY Prior to starting the operational test, following condition shall be checked and/or established.
Record the data and result in its corresponding TEST DATA SHEET.
5-1.1 NAME PLATE DATA RECORD Record the equipment name plate data.
5-1.2 TMDE Record all Test, Measuring & Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) type, range, serial number and calibration due date. TMDE shall be calibrated and has not expired.
5-1.3 COLD INSULATION RESISTANCE TEST Prior to energizing the system, conduct insulation resistance test as follows. If motor has been overhauled/rewound/replaced, proceed to step 5-1.3 (2). Omit step if not applicable and mark "NA".
(1) COMBINED INSULATION RESISTANCE Measure the equipment temperature using a thermometer and measure the insulation resistance to ground with the motor connected to the controller using a 500vo1t megohmmeter. Record the data.
a. If neither of the following conditions i) nor ii) is satisfied, the measured value of insulation resistance requires correction to 25°C (77°F) using Table 5-2 and Formula 5-1.
i) The measured resistance is equal to or greater than the 4 megaohms and the temperature at the time of measurement is 25°C (77°F) or higher.
ii) The measured resistance is equal to or greater than 8 megaohms and the temperature at the time of measurement is 15°C (59°F) or higher.
Acceptance criteria: The combined insulation resistance shall be 4 megaohms or higher.

b. If the insulation resistance is less than 4 megaohms, record the data, mark "5-1 .3 (2)" and proceed to step 5-1.3 (2).
(2) INDIVIDUAL INSULATION RESISTANCE Select the applicable acceptance criteria from Table 5-1 and record the criterion. Measure the equipment temperature using a thermometer and measure the motor and controller insulation resistance separately using a 500vo1t megohmmeter.
a. If neither of the following conditions i) nor ii) is satisfied, the measured value of insulation resistance requires correction to 25°C (77°F) using Table 5-2 and Formula 5-1.
i) The measured resistance is equal to or greater than the minimum value (Acceptance criteria) and the temperature at the time of measurement is 25°C (77°F) or higher.
ii) The measured resistance is equal to or greater than twice the minimum value (Acceptance criteria) and the temperature at the time of measurement is 15°C (59°F) or higher.
Acceptance criteria: The motor insulation resistance shall be equal or higher than the selected value.
The controller insulation resistance shall be I megaohms or higher.
