About this file

This document is a Job Specification and Test Procedure for load testing of the Starboard (STBD) Sideport Stores Crane aboard USS TRIPOLI (LHA-7). The crane is manufactured by JERED LLC (MFR ID: 1475-1) with a 3,000-pound hoist capacity and 55-foot lifting distance. The work is located in Passage (1-41-02-L) and is being prepared for testing at Sasebo. The anticipated award date is September 11, 2026, with a production completion date of December 18, 2026, and performance period from October 13, 2026, to January 29, 2027.

The specification requires both a preliminary inspection (P1) and comprehensive load testing. The P1 phase includes lubrication of all specified points with government-furnished materials (lubricating oil, utility grease, and wire rope grease) and inspection of 16 major crane assemblies. The comprehensive load test includes inspection and no-load testing, static load testing (6,000 pounds), dynamic load testing (4,500 pounds), and rated load testing (3,000 pounds). All tests require detailed post-test inspections verifying hook twist does not exceed 10 degrees and dimensional changes do not exceed 5 percent of pre-test measurements. The test procedure includes specific acceptance criteria for structural integrity, brake operation, wire rope condition, sheave assemblies, and electrical safety devices. Test label plates must be affixed upon successful completion, valid for 60 months. Government-furnished test weights and tools will be provided by the SRF Tool Room and S980 divisions.
