About this file

This is a Job Specification document for repair work on the USS TRIPOLI (LHA-7) naval vessel, with an anticipated award date of September 11, 2026, and a production completion date of December 18, 2026. The work is being prepared by the Sasebo activity and involves replacing a grab rod (top entryway handhold) inside the exhaust duct of the No. 2 Gas Turbine, which was discovered broken at the weld during an inspection. The work location is Main Machinery Room No. One (6-65-0-E), and the grab rod is specified as 3/4 inch OD by 36 inches long, manufactured from Inconel 625 per ASTM B446.

The Performance Period of Performance runs from October 13, 2026, to January 29, 2027. Key requirements include cleaning affected areas to gas/oil-free condition per 29 CFR 1915 Subpart B, obtaining a Marine Chemist certificate, removing and installing the replacement grab rod using detailed technical drawings, conducting visual inspection by Ship's Force, and witnessing an operating pressure test of the exhaust duct with zero allowable leakage. Government-furnished materials include the Inconel 625 rod, MIL-RN625 welding rod, gasket sheets, glass cloth, insulation materials, adhesives, sealing compounds, and fasteners (screws, nuts, washers) for manhole cover contingency repairs. The work includes FOD (Foreign Object Damage) protection procedures for the No. 2 GTM exhaust collector with strict safety protocols, requiring verification by Code S211/285 representatives and compliance with multiple reference standards including Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual and Marine Gas Turbine Operating Instruction.
