About this file
This document is a technical specification and installation guide for duraSAFE Rubber Playground Tiles, prepared by sofSURFACES for the City of Bowling Green, Kentucky Parks and Recreation Department's concrete pad and sidewalk installation project at Pedigo Park. The guide provides detailed application notes and installation instructions for rubber playground tiles installed over concrete and contained by curbs or sidewalks. The specification includes a comprehensive thickness-to-critical-fall-height chart, ranging from 2.00 inches of tile thickness to accommodate a 3-foot fall height up to 5.25 inches of thickness for a 12-foot fall height. The document, prepared by Brad Goss on November 30, 2021, uses the Premium95 duraSAFE series in Sedona color and provides critical installation requirements including proper drainage slope of minimum 1-2 percent, continuous adhesive bead application along all seams, and specific sub-base construction with gravel and compacted ground layers.
The installation guide emphasizes compliance with local, state, and ASTM standards for concrete finishing and drainage requirements. Key technical requirements include ensuring subsoil drains toward the drainage system, applying duraSAFE tile adhesive with careful attention to proper amounts, and removing excess adhesive after full curing using a utility knife. The document specifies that when perimeter tiles have been cut and support pedestals structurally altered or partially removed, expansion foam is required for additional support against the containment device. The guide references an accompanying subsurface installation manual and provides the contact information for sofSURFACES at 4393 Discovery Line, Petrolia, Ontario, Canada, and telephone number 800.263.2363.

APPLICATION NOTES
1) Consult with a local Civil Engineer to find out what drainage system is best for your application.
2) Ensure subsoil drains towards drainage system.
3) Review current installation manual and sub-surface guide.
LEGEND
1) duraSAFE® Rubber Playground Tiles
2) A continuous Bead of duraSAFE tile adhesive is to be applied in all seams.
Careful attention is required to ensure the correct amount of adhesive is applied. Once the product begins to rise flush to the top of the seam, enough product has been appplied. Allow any excess adhesive to fully cure prior to removal. Simply remove using a utility knife.
3) Turf/Sod.
4) Ensure a minimum of 1-2% slope on sub-surface to ensure proper drainage. (1/8” per 12“ or 3 mm per 300 mm).
5) Containment to ensure required compression (Sidewalk, Curb or Timber).
6) Concrete sub-base.
7) 3/4 Clear Gravel
8) Compacted ground.
Note: Be sure to comply with local, state and/or provincial regulations including ASTM Standards for concrete finishing requirements (which may or may not include drainage details) as they may vary by country/region.
