About this file
The document is a technical specification sheet for C-23® emulsion, produced by D & D Emulsions, Inc., located in Mansfield, Ohio. The specification sheet details the technical properties, test methods, and requirements for the emulsion product using various ASTM standard testing procedures.
The specification covers detailed technical parameters including viscosity, particle charge, pumping stability, settlement, residue content, and tests on residue from distillation. Key technical specifications include a viscosity range of 20-145 at 25°C, a positive particle charge test, pumping stability requirements, a maximum 4.77% five-day settlement, and residue percentage of 62-66%. Additional residue tests specify viscosity between 990-4,100 cSt, asphaltenes content of 28-35%, aniline point of 29-44°C, and a maximum total acid number of 0.5. The document provides a conversion note of 242 gallons per ton and was last revised on 06/21/13, superseding a previous version from 02/02/06.

1Test procedure with ASTM D-244 except that distilled water shall be used in place of two percent sodium oleate solution.
2Pumping stability is determined by charging 450 ml of emulsion into one-liter beaker and circulating the emulsion through a gear pump (Roger 29.B22621) having ¼” inlet and outlet. The emulsion passes if there is no significant oil separation after circulating ten minutes.
3ASTM D-244 Evaporation Test for percent of residue is modified by heating 50 gram sample to 149°C (300°F) until foaming ceases, then cooling immediately and calculating results.
