VENDOR QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Q1= The RFP states that there shall be two phases. Can the contractor do it in one phase? The limited scope of the contract negates the need for a rough-in. We do many installations as such, and we never pre wire for this type of application, unless there are no dropped ceiling tiles. Putting in the 70 volt system, speakers, projector, and running the few lines required, is simple, after the fact installation.
A1= Since all of the rooms have dropped ceiling tiles and since numerous vendors have requested to do the project in one phase, the government has decided to change the delivery requirement from two phases to one phase. The winning vendor will complete the entire project in one phase when the construction of the building is substantially complete.
Q2= Will the Vendor be supplying the equipment rack in Room 303 and/or Room 306?
A2= Yes, the vendor is responsible for all racks.
Q3= Is a Wall Control System like the Extron ML 226IP DV+ MediaLink okay or do you want a more detailed control system like the Crestron CP2E with wall push button?
A3= Extron is fine, there is no need for a Crestron type of system.
Q4= Is there existing floor conduit to run the VGA cabling to the table in Rooms 323 and 211?
A4= Yes, there is conduit.
Q5= The simple wall plate to switch between inputs: Do you want just 2 buttons for PC to laptop or 3 buttons adding one for RCA, in Rooms 323 and 211?
A5= Let’s go with the 3 and include the RCA connections.
Q6= Section C.6, projector specifications state,“30800 ANSI lumens.” Is this a typo? Do you want 3800 lumens in all 4 Rooms?
A6= Yes, this is a typo. It should say “3800 ANSI lumens.” Yes, 3800 in all 4 rooms.
Q7= Section C.7 shows the building is pre-cast concrete but is there drywall walls so cabling can be run in the wall and wall plates can be cut into wall or do we need to supply wiremold to run cabling on the outside of the walls and external wall boxes for wall plates?
A7= Cabling can be run within the walls. Wiremold is not acceptable.
Q8= Is a higher lumen projector with a lower contrast ratio with all of the other features acceptable?
A8= We need to maintain the contrast ratio for picture quality. Just having a brighter projector with a lower contrast will not suffice.
Q9= Power: Who is responsible for the placement of the power to the equipment rack and the projectors?
A9= Power will be provided by the building lessor.
Q10= Regarding the four rooms listed in the solicitation, are there any plans to make these rooms video teleconferencing capable? If so, what brand of codec are you leaning toward (Tandberg or Polycom)?
A10= Room 211, Video Conference Room, will be set up that way. We were using Polycom but have recently switched to a new HD system that I don’t have information on. USCIS will provide and install all future video conferencing equipment so nothing is required for this installation.
Q11= The projector calls for resolutions of 576p / 576i ?
A11= We have eliminated the need for 576 compatibility. That is left over from film inputs. With everything digital now, we should be fine with the 480/720/1080 setup. We think that is more in keeping with current standards.
Q12= Is this new construction or an update to a current system? I see references that there are motorized screens that already exist in Section C.3 and then there is a reference to new construction in Section F. Please clarify.
A12= This is all new construction. The screens will be in place by the building lessor. They are new screens and have not been hooked up to any equipment.
Q13= Is the contractor required to provide the conduit, mudrings, and mounting hardware in pre-cast concrete walls?
A13= The conduit, mudrings, and mounting hardware will all take place in interior walls that are metal studs with sheetrock.
Q14= Is the contractor responsible for providing 120 AC electric hookup at the AV closet, projector, and screen mounting points?
A14= Only if the equipment requires a hard wired connection. Standard outlets are in place.
Q15= The project requires a push button control system. Are we talking AMX, or a simple Extron MLC controller?
A15= Simple controller is fine.
Q16= There is a rack required in CLIN 0001, what about CLIN 0002?
A16= There is no space for a rack in CLIN 0002, it would either be on a desk or shelf.
Q17= There is mention of accommodating audio from TV. Will the TV signal be run through the DVD/VCR combo and if so, does the unit need a tuner?
A17= TV signal will not run through the DVD and the DVD will not need a tuner.
Q18= Where do you want the switcher box located in the smaller rooms?
A18= On the wall by the screen.
Q19= If there is television input, is it coming from a cable box? where will it be?
A19= Signal will be coming from cable box via coax. Drops will be field located by the building lessor, as required, after award.
