STATEMENT OF NEED

Brand Name Only Dynamic Image Analyzer (DIA) for particle size and shape analysis and available trade-in of existing Camsizer XT

Requesting Lab: Engineering Laboratory, Intelligent Systems Division, Production Systems Group (735.15).

I. BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The Production Systems Group (PSG) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) supports the mission of the Engineering Laboratory and the Intelligent Systems Division at NIST by conducting research and development in the areas of measurement methods, models, instrumentation, sensors, and data. The work of PSG improves scientific understanding and control of manufacturing processes, equipment, and workplace properties.

The PSG uses a Dynamic Image Analysis (DIA) instrument to determine particle size and shape analysis of metal powders used for Additive Manufacturing. PSG currently owns and operates a DIA instrument called Camsizer XT, currently in operation on the NIST Gaithersburg, MD campus. It is nearing its end of life in terms of software updates and upgrades.

Purpose/Objective: The purpose of this acquisition is to obtain an upgrade to the current Camsizer-XT, manufactured by Microtrac, to the latest version of the Camsizer-X2, meeting the technical specifications described below. This is a Brand Name only requirement for the Microtrac brand Camsizer. Additionally, NIST’s current Camsizer XT is available for trade-in. The current Camsizer XT is model number CAMSIZER XT/150.0001 with tag number N107313 and A228355.

Specifically, the required upgrade to the Camsizer-X2 must be compatible with the existing results produced from the software and hardware from the current Camsizer XT. The Contractor must do the required upgrade on-site (Gaithersburg campus, 233/A120). The new chassis of the DIA instrument will be used. A new PC and the latest software will be used. The powder delivery system of the existing Camsizer XT is unique and does not need replacement. Installation and the demo of the DIA instrument on-site are required. The Contractor shall give training for operating and maintaining the instrument.

II. Description of Required Products The Contractor shall provide a quantity of one (1) Camsizer X2 System meeting the following minimum specifications below as an upgrade to the existing Camsizer XT system. NIST’s existing CamSizer XT is also available for trade-in. All items must be new. Used or remanufactured equipment will not be considered for award. Experimental, prototype, or custom items will not be considered. The use of “gray market” components are not authorized for sale in the U.S. by the Contractor is not acceptable. All line items shall be shipped in the original manufacturer’s packaging and include all original documentation and software, when applicable.
