SECTION C - DESCRIPTION/SPECIFICATIONS/STATEMENT OF WORK
C.1. Overview/Background. Library Collections and Services Group (LCSG) uses wooden and metal book trucks for many activities, including but not limited to, shifting of collections; retrieval and refile of materials; transport of collections in reading rooms and collection processing areas, between buildings on Capitol Hill, to reading rooms and other areas, and back to the stacks. Booktrucks are also heavily used to support the ongoing move of millions of items from the general collections and special collections to off-site storage at Fort Meade and Cabin Branch. In addition, they support large scale LC-wide projects such as cataloguing activities; the removal of collection items in preparation for renovation projects; initiatives to reduce or eliminate items on the floor in the stacks; and a number of emergencies such as water leaks and mold outbreaks.
