The unsolicited proposal must demonstrate an innovative capability or concept not currently available to the government, and prepared without Government involvement. ;

Goals: The purpose of this Administrative History is to document the establishment and management of the park and to place it within the larger contexts of public land management and resource preservation both inside and outside the National Park System. The study will also place the development of this park within the context of the period during which it was created. The park was largely developed prior to the 1940’s and built during the depression year, reflecting the resource scarcity being experienced by parks during the war years. It will serve to document the management strategies of the park over the following decades.

A. Project Goal – Complete and publish the Administrative History of Mammoth Cave National Park.

B. Project Objectives – Provide stakeholders, general public, and park managers access to a written history of the park’s legislative origin, formation, administration, operations, and relationship with stakeholders.

PP: This project serves a dual public purpose of increased public understanding of park management and providing stimulation of scholarly activities. By providing context and intent of prior decisions and historic relationships with partner and stakeholders, this project will enhance public engagement with the park and promote common stewardship of park resources. By providing the opportunity to conduct a rigorous historical research of the administration of Mammoth Cave NP, the value of scholarly historical research for increasing public understanding of the public lands and this park will be highlighted.
Overview: Project Summary

This project will entail the research and writing of an administrative history for Mammoth Cave National Park. An administrative history is baseline documentation that this park currently does not have, and which is necessary for efficient management and conservation of the park.
