About this file
This specifications document outlines requirements for a lighted holiday sign for the Lubbock Preston-Smith International Airport (LPSIA), a project issued by the City of Lubbock, Texas. The City is requesting quotes for illuminated letters spelling "MERRY CHRISTMAS" consisting of 14 letters in bold/block style, each 3-4 feet in height. The letters must be stackable and arranged in two rows with a stable, freestanding support structure capable of breaking down for storage. The display must be delivered by October 1 and installed indoors along a long wall next to the TSA entrance, with all assembly, installation, and removal to be performed by airport staff rather than vendor personnel. The specifications include LED lighting in red with static illumination (non-animated), plug-in power from standard wall outlets, and do not require weather resistance since the display will be indoors.
The vendor must provide clear assembly and installation instructions with diagrams or photos, identify any tools or equipment airport staff would need for assembly, and include warranty information covering the letters, lighting, and support structure along with recommended maintenance guidance, LED replacement policy, and expected lighting lifespan. An additional pricing option is requested for a custom star based on the airport's logo, though this element is not required. The frame material, letter depth/thickness, brightness/lumen output, and support system design are open to vendor recommendations. No site visit, bidder's meeting, or response deadline is specified in this document. Storage capability and an optional storage container are desired features.

• Total number of letters: 14
• Exact wording: MERRY CHRISTMAS
• Letter height: 3–4 feet; depending on what works best with the available space and overall proportions- open to vendor recommendations based on the available space
• Letter depth/thickness: Open to recommendation
• Font style: Bold/block style, similar to the attached examples; letters need to be stackable
2. Lighting Requirements
• LED type: Red
• Brightness/lumen output: Open to recommendation
• Lighting: Prefer illuminated letters rather than floodlighting
• Pattern: Static
3. Construction & Materials
• Frame material: Open to recommendation
• Weather resistance: Not required; display will be indoors
• Mounting: We need a stable, freestanding support/stand capable of holding the two rows of letters without tipping. The support should ideally be removable/break down for storage.
4. Power & Electrical
• Power source: Plug-in
• Voltage: Standard wall outlet preferred
• Extension cords: We will have access to nearby wall outlets and can provide power strips if needed
• Timers/controllers: Not required unless recommended
5. Delivery/Installation Requirements
• Location: Inside Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport, along a long wall next to the
TSA entrance.
• Installation: Airport staff will be responsible for assembly, installation, and removal of the display. Vendor installation or onsite assembly will not be required.
• Delivery by: October 1
• Assembly instructions: Because airport staff will be responsible for assembling and installing the display, the vendor must provide clear, detailed assembly and installation instructions for the letters and any support/frame system. Instructions should include diagrams or photos where helpful and explain how the frame is assembled, how the letters are attached or secured, and how the completed display should be stabilized.
• Frame/support: The display must include any necessary frame, stand, or support system required for the letters to be safely displayed in two stacked rows. The support system should be stable and designed to prevent tipping, while also being able to be disassembled for storage.
• Safety/clearance: The completed display must not interfere with passenger traffic or access to the TSA entrance.
• Site information: A photo of the proposed location, including measurements, will be attached for reference.
• Onsite assistance: We are not expecting vendor personnel to be onsite for installation.
Please identify any tools, hardware, equipment, or special procedures airport staff would need to complete the assembly and installation ourselves.
6. Maintenance & Warranty
• Warranty period for the letters, lighting, and support structure
• Recommended maintenance
• Replacement LED policy
• Expected lifespan of the lighting
7. Additional Options
• Custom star: We would also like to price the option of having a custom star made using the star from our airport logo, which will be attached for reference. We are not committed to including the star at this time; we'd simply like to know the additional cost as an option.
• Custom colors: Not needed
• Custom shapes: Not needed
• Animation: Not needed
• Storage: The display and support structure should be able to break down for storage when not in use. A storage container would be nice if the vendor offers one, but isn't essential.
