About this file
This document is a comprehensive government contract opportunity file from Cumberland County, North Carolina, involving the construction of a new Parkton Convenience Center waste and recycling facility. The project, located near 6606 Parkton Road in Hope Mills, North Carolina, includes constructing a small single-story building, concrete pads, and new paved entrance and exit aprons. A geotechnical investigation by GeoTechnologies, Inc. was conducted on March 27, 2025, involving six soil test borings advanced to a depth of 6 feet to assess subsurface conditions for the proposed development.
The geotechnical report provides detailed recommendations for site preparation, foundation support, and pavement design. Key technical specifications include an allowable bearing pressure of 2,000 psf for foundations, a recommended pavement section of 4 inches of asphalt over 8 inches of crushed aggregate base course stone for entrance areas, and 12 inches of stone base for gravel surfaces. The site is classified as seismic site class "D", with groundwater encountered at depths between 4 and 5 feet below existing grade. The subsurface investigation revealed predominantly sandy clay and clayey sand deposits with varying compaction characteristics, necessitating specific grading and compaction protocols to ensure stable construction conditions.
