Small Snapshot Hyperspectral Camera Statement of Need In an effort to enhance core remote sensing capabilities, the Eastern Geographic Science Center (EGSC) of the U.S. Geological Survey seeks to purchase a small, framing, snapshot hyperspectral imaging camera that is portable and must weigh 3.0 pounds or less (1.4 kg) and collect at least 200 spectral bands over the range of 400 nanometers (nm) to 1000 nm. The system must be capable of outdoor imagery applications in good weather, but also capable of being used in the laboratory. A standard mount is required tripod application. The overall spectral resolution must be less than 10 nm full width half maximum (FWHM) and must have a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of >200 over full spectral range for solar radiance levels as designated in ASTM AM 1.5 (http://rredc.nrel.gov/solar/spectra/am1.5/ ).
The camera and system must have a standard interface for download such as Ethernet or USB and be capable of storing at least 25 gb of data. The camera must employ a charge-coupled device (CCD) or complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor (CMOS) technology and be powered by a standard power source. The camera and system accessories must be able to deliver collected hyperspectral image cubes in .tif, img, or any format that is compatible with common scientific image processing software packages such as ERDAS or ENVI. Complete specifications are listed below.
The camera MUST operate in snapshot or framing mode, meaning that image capture does NOT require movement of either the camera or the target and that the camera captures all pixels in the image area simultaneously.
