UNSPSC 71161408: Shorebased services

Services to support the transport of people and products to and from an offshore platform using sea vessels; includes docking facilities for the support vessels, lay-down and marshaling areas, warehousing, materials handling equipment, etc.

UNSPSC 71161408 Shorebased services (Commodity) does not align with the recent state and local procurement activity posted under this code. The most recent opportunities include landfill gas collection and control system construction in Georgia, park irrigation system upgrades in Florida, digester gas utilization infrastructure in California, and municipal executive search services in Georgia — none of which fall within the nominal scope of shorebased (marine or coastal waterfront) services. The code shows little relevant recent activity for firms pursuing work that actually involves waterfront construction, maintenance, or marine-related support operations.

The mismatch between the code's intended scope and the opportunities tagged under it suggests either a classification error in the sourcing system or that this UNSPSC category is not actively used by state and local procurement offices for their current buying needs. Business development professionals evaluating this code should verify whether their firm's shorebased capabilities are actually being sought in the state and local market, as the recent posted opportunities do not reflect demand for that work.
