UNSPSC 41105201: Histology or cytology slide stainers

UNSPSC 41105201 Histology or cytology slide stainers is a Commodity code covering automated and manual equipment used to apply diagnostic stains to tissue and cell samples in clinical and research laboratories. State and local governments procure these instruments primarily through hospital systems, public health laboratories, and medical examiner offices that require standardized staining protocols for pathology workflows. The equipment ranges from benchtop batch processors handling dozens of slides to high-throughput systems serving large reference or teaching laboratories, and may include standalone stainers or integrated platforms with cover-slip application and slide handling automation. Issuing bodies are predominantly large hospital networks and state health department laboratory divisions; county medical examiner and coroner offices purchase less frequently but represent a secondary market segment.

The source provides no recent state and local contract opportunities under this code. Activity in this Commodity is episodic and tied to laboratory capital refreshes, facility expansions, or compliance upgrades rather than continuous procurement cycles. Firms pursuing this code should monitor health system RFP calendars in states with large public hospital networks and state laboratory procurement portals, particularly those serving major metropolitan areas where volume justifies automation investment.
