UNSPSC 31301107: Magnesium open die machined forgings

UNSPSC 31301107 Magnesium open die machined forgings, a Commodity code, describes precision-forged magnesium components produced through open die machining — a specialized metalworking process that state and local governments source primarily for aerospace, defense, and heavy equipment applications where lightweight, high-strength materials are critical. The code covers finished magnesium forgings shaped and finished to customer specification rather than off-the-shelf stock material. State and local procurement activity under this code is minimal; no recent solicitations appear in the available opportunity record, suggesting this is a niche commodity driven by specialized end-use demand rather than routine purchasing cycles across typical state and local jurisdictions.

Without current opportunities in the record, geographic concentration and issuing-body patterns cannot be established. Firms pursuing this code should monitor aerospace and defense-related procurement from state economic development agencies, university research institutions with materials-science or engineering programs, and municipal transit authorities operating specialized fleets, though such opportunities remain episodic and geographically dispersed.
