UNSPSC 25172123: Knee airbag inflator

Air inflation mechanism used forautomotive lower front (knee) inflatable restraint system

UNSPSC 25172123 Knee airbag inflator is a Commodity code showing minimal recent state and local procurement activity aligned with its stated scope. The single relevant recent opportunity is not for knee airbag inflators but for ethylene glycol antifreeze—a clear mismatch between the code's nominal product category and what is actually being bought under it in state and local markets today.

The City of Detroit Office of Contracting and Procurement posted an RFQ on September 25, 2026 (due October 9, 2026) for low silicate, phosphate-free, premium quality inhibited ethylene glycol antifreeze in bulk and 55-gallon drums to support the Detroit Department of Transportation's Extended Service Interval program, with estimated annual usage of approximately 24,000 gallons across four line items. The contract carries a two-year term with potential renewal options. Detroit-based business certifications (D-BB, D-RB, D-HB, D-SB, D-MB) receive equalization credits of one to five percent. A second record from July 2026 announcing Williamson County Purchasing Department's relocation contains no procurement scope. This code does not show recent state and local solicitation activity for knee airbag inflators; procurement professionals evaluating the code should flag the mismatch and verify coding accuracy with issuing bodies before pursuit.
