UNSPSC 23151705: Optical vacuum coating equipment

UNSPSC 23151705 Optical vacuum coating equipment (Commodity) shows minimal alignment with actual state and local procurement activity under this code. The recent opportunities tagged with this code concern tactical apparel and law enforcement equipment procurement—sunglasses, ballistic eyewear, gloves, jackets, wallets, and badge holders—which fall outside the scope of optical vacuum coating manufacturing equipment. The Texas Office of the Attorney General is sourcing finished tactical apparel for Criminal Investigation Division officers through an IFB, and Sourcewell is managing a cooperative RFP for law enforcement equipment across participating Washington counties and other jurisdictions nationwide. Neither solicitation involves the manufacture, installation, or supply of vacuum coating systems or related production equipment.

The code shows limited recent activity, and the opportunities present do not represent genuine procurement of optical vacuum coating equipment. The mismatch between the code's nominal scope and the actual work being solicited suggests that either the code was applied incorrectly to these notices or that state and local governments are not currently buying optical vacuum coating equipment through the formal solicitation channels captured in this source. Vendors in the vacuum coating equipment space should not expect material pipeline activity under this code based on these recent postings.
