UNSPSC 12171506: Natural dyes

UNSPSC 12171506 Natural dyes is a Commodity code. State and local governments procure natural dyes for textile dyeing, art education, conservation work, and specialized manufacturing applications where synthetic alternatives are unsuitable or where environmental or cultural preferences favor plant-based colorants. The code covers dyes derived from botanical, mineral, or animal sources—indigo, madder, cochineal, walnut hulls, and similar materials—used in fabric treatment, museum conservation, craft instruction, and niche production. Issuing bodies are typically state arts agencies, museum and cultural institutions, educational departments managing vocational or art curricula, and specialized manufacturing or textiles programs within state universities or community colleges.

The source provides no recent state and local contract opportunities tagged to UNSPSC 12171506, making the current procurement activity under this code difficult to characterize. Without posted RFPs, RFQs, IFBs, or ITBs in the recent-opportunities record, geographic concentration and representative solicitation detail cannot be determined. Natural dyes represent a narrow procurement niche in state and local government, and opportunities may be infrequent, bundled into larger conservation or educational supply contracts under different codes, or issued through informal quotation processes that do not generate indexed notices.
