UNSPSC 12161809: Silicone gel

A gel form of an inert compound with a wide variety of uses. Typically heat-resistant, nonstick, and rubberlike, it is frequently used in cookware, medical applications, sealants, lubricants, and insulation. Silicones are polymers that include silicon together with carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and sometimes other chemical elements.

UNSPSC 12161809 Silicone gel is a Commodity code, but the recent state and local activity recorded under it does not reflect procurement of silicone gel products. The County of Santa Clara issued a Request for Information (RFI) in April 2026 seeking vendors for a lab information management system (LIMS) replacement for its Public Health Lab — a software and systems-integration service entirely outside the scope of chemical or materials supply that the code nominally covers. The mismatch suggests either a cataloging error in the source data or a jurisdiction's use of an incorrect code assignment.

No recent state and local opportunities for silicone gel procurement are evident in the available records. Firms pursuing work under this code should verify with issuing agencies whether procurement activity exists outside the RFI records shown here, or consider whether the code assignment itself reflects current buying patterns in their target markets.
