UNSPSC 11101801: Gold

A precious metal and chemical element with the symbol Au (from Latin: aurum) and atomic number 79, making it one of the higher atomic number elements that occur naturally. In a pure form, it is a bright, slightly reddish yellow, dense, soft, malleable, and ductile metal. Chemically, gold is a transition metal and a group 11 element. It is one of the least reactive chemical elements and is solid under standard conditions.

UNSPSC 11101801 Gold is a Commodity code covering precious metal procurement. Recent state and local solicitations show no relevant activity under this code. The three most recent state-local contract opportunities tagged to this code address structural metals (aluminum, iron, rebar, steel), law enforcement equipment, and park irrigation system installation — none of which align with gold procurement. The code appears to see little or no actual purchasing activity in the state and local market, or the opportunities indexed to it reflect tagging mismatches rather than genuine gold sourcing.

Without recent opportunities that substantively address precious metal procurement under this code, no meaningful characterization of issuing-body types, geographic concentration, or representative solicitations is possible. Firms evaluating this code should confirm whether state and local procurement activity for gold or other precious metals is tagged to a different UNSPSC category in their target jurisdictions.
