UNSPSC 11101708: Bismuth

UNSPSC 11101708 Bismuth is a Commodity code that nominally addresses the procurement of bismuth metal and related materials. However, the recent state and local opportunities tagged under this code show no relevant activity aligned with bismuth procurement. The three most recent opportunities—a Fort Worth metals-supply RFP, a Sourcewell law enforcement equipment cooperative, and a DeBary park irrigation project—address structural steel and aluminum, law enforcement gear, and landscape irrigation systems respectively, none of which involve bismuth sourcing. The mismatch between the code's nominal scope and the actual content of tagged solicitations suggests that issuing bodies are applying this code incorrectly to unrelated procurements, or that bismuth is so rarely purchased by state and local entities that the code carries minimal practical activity in this market segment.

No recent state and local procurement opportunities for bismuth itself are present in the available record. Vendors evaluating this code should verify with state and local procurement offices whether bismuth procurement is being tagged under a different UNSPSC classification, or whether demand for bismuth in state and local government is sufficiently sparse that direct solicitation activity under this code is not a reliable pursuit avenue at this time.
