UNSPSC 10241517: Live single bloom red bi color carnation

Live plant including the root ball of the red bi color variety of single bloom carnations

UNSPSC 10241517 Live single bloom red bi color carnation is a Commodity code representing a narrow product line within ornamental floriculture. The recent opportunities under this code, however, show a striking mismatch: state and local governments are not procuring live single bloom red bi-color carnations. Instead, the opportunities tagged to this code span IT and low-voltage infrastructure installation (DeKalb County), comprehensive landscaping and irrigation systems (Pasco County), coastal dune restoration with native plants (Collier County), multi-year environmental planting and monitoring services (Pinellas County), and general plant procurement (City of Dallas). None of these solicitations reference carnations or specialty cut flowers. The code shows minimal relevant recent activity aligned with its nominal scope.

The geographic spread of available opportunities spans Florida (Pasco, Collier, Pinellas counties) and Texas (Dallas), with one Georgia opportunity (DeKalb County). However, the mismatch between the code's intended commodity—a specific ornamental cut flower variety—and the actual work being solicited suggests that either the sourcing agencies are using an incorrect code classification or the code itself does not reflect current state and local procurement patterns for this product category. If ornamental floriculture procurement exists in state and local markets, it does not surface clearly under this commodity code in recent publicly posted opportunities.
