NIGP 99888: Scales and Weighing Apparatus, Sale of Surplus and Obsolete Items

NIGP 99888 Scales And Weighing Apparatus, Sale Of Surplus And Obsolete Items is an Item code that covers the disposition of used, confiscated, and surplus equipment through trade, credit, or outright sale to licensed dealers and qualified buyers. State and local governments use this code to liquidate seized or obsolete assets — from firearms and weapons to weighing equipment — in exchange for credit toward new equipment purchases or cash recovery. The issuing bodies span police departments, county transportation and weights units, and other operational agencies looking to clear inventory and fund replacements through swap or sale transactions.

Recent activity shows Columbus Consolidated Government Police Department soliciting bids (RFB No. 27-0010, due October 14, 2026) to trade 306 used and confiscated firearms plus seven upper receivers for Heckler & Koch MR556 A4 SBR 11" rifles with accessories, with award made to the highest responsive bidder offering the greatest credit or swap value, and Williamson County seeking wheel load weighers for its L & W Unit via RFQ 26RFQ66 (due July 7, 2026). The geographic spread includes Georgia (Columbus) and Tennessee (Williamson County), though the source provides limited visibility into broader state-level concentration or activity patterns under this code.
