NIGP 89552: Projection Welding Machines

NIGP 89552 Projection Welding Machines, an Item code, covers the procurement of welding equipment and related materials by state and local governments. Recent solicitations show that this code encompasses both capital equipment purchases—such as diesel-driven welder/generators—and consumable welding supplies including rods, electrodes, flat bars, sheets, tubes, and pipes in steel, stainless steel, and aluminum compositions. Issuing bodies include municipal utility districts and community college systems, with colleges emerging as repeat buyers seeking multi-vendor contracts to support welding programs and maintenance operations.

Recent activity concentrates in Texas. The North Texas Municipal Water District Maintenance Department issued an IFB (Solicitation 26163B, due July 29, 2026) for two Lincoln Frontier 400X diesel-driven welder/generators specified to a single manufacturer and model. Collin College District has posted two separate ITBs for three-year welding materials and supplies contracts—FY2024-ITB-020 (due March 19, 2024) and FY2024-ITB-024 (due April 19, 2024)—each with an anticipated annual procurement volume of approximately $400,000 and multi-vendor award structures. Both college solicitations emphasize evaluation criteria beyond price, including references, quality, total cost of ownership, and Texas vendor status, with preference for vendor participation from small, minority, veteran, and female-owned businesses.
