NIGP 70036: Letterpress Equipment

NIGP 70036 Letterpress Equipment, an Item code, covers printing machinery and related apparatus used in letterpress production—a specialized niche within state and local procurement that sees minimal current solicitation activity. State and local governments buy letterpress equipment primarily through preservation, restoration, and archival programs at cultural institutions, historical societies, and specialized print shops operated by or serving public agencies. The issuing bodies pursuing this code tend to be state humanities departments, county historical societies, municipal libraries, and state printing offices maintaining legacy equipment or supporting educational programs in traditional printing crafts.

No recent state and local contract opportunities appear in the available procurement records for NIGP 70036. The absence of active solicitations reflects the narrow scope of letterpress technology in contemporary government operations—most public printing has migrated to digital workflows, and demand for new or refurbished letterpress equipment remains episodic rather than sustained. Professionals evaluating this code should monitor specialized museum and cultural-institution procurement channels and state library system RFPs, where letterpress restoration or acquisition occasionally surfaces as a line item within broader collections-management or facilities-improvement initiatives, rather than as a standalone solicitation.
