NIGP 59341: Fuel, Reactor (Uranium, Iridium, Plutonium)

NIGP 59341 Fuel, Reactor (Uranium, Iridium, Plutonium) is an Item code covering the procurement of specialized nuclear fuel materials by state and local governments. The scope of work under this code centers on the acquisition of uranium, iridium, plutonium, and related reactor fuel products for nuclear research facilities, medical isotope production, and institutional nuclear operations. State and local governments procuring under this code typically include state university systems operating research reactors, state departments of health managing medical isotope programs, and specialized state-owned nuclear research institutions.

No recent state and local contract opportunities appear in the current activity record for this code. The highly specialized nature of nuclear fuel procurement, combined with strict federal regulatory oversight through the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Department of Energy, results in minimal direct state and local solicitation activity. Procurement of reactor fuel materials at the state and local level, when it occurs, typically flows through federal cooperative purchasing vehicles or direct relationships with federally licensed fuel suppliers rather than open competitive bidding.
