NIGP 59340: Fuel Equipment, Nuclear

NIGP 59340 Fuel Equipment, Nuclear is an Item code covering specialized equipment and apparatus used in nuclear fuel handling, storage, and management within state and local facilities. State and local governments procure under this code infrequently and in narrow use cases — primarily state energy departments, university research facilities, and special-purpose districts operating or maintaining nuclear research reactors or radiological training programs. The equipment typically includes fuel assemblies, cask systems, shielding apparatus, and ancillary handling machinery required for safe nuclear fuel storage and transport compliance.

No recent state and local contract opportunities for NIGP 59340 appear in the available procurement record. Activity under this code remains sparse across all jurisdictions, reflecting the limited footprint of nuclear facilities within state and local governance and the heavy federal regulatory and procurement involvement in civilian nuclear operations.
