NIGP 20645: Drives: Floppy Disk

NIGP 20645 Drives: Floppy Disk, an Item code, does not reflect the current state of state and local procurement activity. The two recent opportunities posted under law enforcement and classroom technology procurement—a Sourcewell cooperative RFP for law enforcement equipment and a Valencia College District RFP for classroom and conference room technology services—do not reference floppy disk drives or storage media in their scope, specifications, or component lists. Modern state and local technology procurements, including those involving audio-visual systems, control panels, projectors, document cameras, and integrated classroom infrastructure, have moved entirely to networked, cloud-based, or contemporary solid-state storage solutions. No recent state or local contract opportunities explicitly solicit floppy disk drives as a standalone commodity or component of larger system procurements.

The absence of active procurement under this Item code signals that floppy disk drive sourcing is no longer a decision-relevant category for state and local government purchasing. Business development activity in this code would be limited to legacy equipment support or obsolete-system maintenance scenarios, which do not appear in current solicitation streams. Buyers targeting state and local markets should focus on contemporary storage, networking, and digital infrastructure codes rather than this deprecated NIGP classification.
