NIGP 20040: Laboratory Clothing, All Kinds (see 175-03 for Aprons and Gloves)

NIGP 20040 Laboratory Clothing, All Kinds (Item) covers protective and specialized apparel for laboratory and clinical settings, including lab coats, uniforms, smocks, and related garments — with the exception of aprons and gloves, which fall under NIGP 17503. State and local procurement activity under this Item code reflects steady demand from health departments, hospital systems, universities with laboratory operations, and school districts operating science programs. Solicitations typically seek bulk quantities of durable, washable lab coats in cotton or cotton-blend fabrics, often with specifications for color, fit, sizing ranges, and flame-resistance or other performance standards. Issuing bodies range from individual state health and environmental agencies to county medical examiners' offices, municipal hospitals, community colleges, and school districts. Universities with extensive research and clinical labs also solicit under this code on a recurring basis.

No recent state and local contract opportunities in the source block support representative examples, issuing-body concentration, or geographic spread characterization for NIGP 20040 at this time.
