NIGP 12079: Reefer (Refrigerator Boat or Ship), Including Parts and Accessories

NIGP 12079 Reefer (Refrigerator Boat Or Ship), Including Parts And Accessories is an Item code covering refrigerated marine vessels and their component equipment — goods state and local governments procure for waterfront operations, cold-chain transport, and marine infrastructure support. Recent solicitation activity under this code is minimal; the source identifies no active state or local procurement opportunities for refrigerated marine vessels, parts, or accessories as of October 2026. The single opportunity posted in the source block — Sourcewell RFP #061626 for Law Enforcement Equipment, due June 16, 2026 — does not align with the refrigerated-vessel scope of this code and appears to be a categorical misfiling or cross-reference artifact in the underlying data.

Without active opportunities to characterize, issuing-body concentration, geographic spread, and representative recent solicitations cannot be assessed. This code currently shows no measurable procurement activity in the state and local marketplace. Firms evaluating entry into refrigerated marine-vessel contracting with public bodies should monitor cooperative purchasing vehicles such as Sourcewell and state DOT or port authority procurement channels for seasonal or project-driven opportunities, as this code's dormancy may reflect the specialized and capital-intensive nature of the asset class rather than lack of underlying government need.
