NIGP 01924: Buckwheat

NIGP 01924 Buckwheat, an Item code, covers dried buckwheat grain and related products that state and local governments procure primarily through their school nutrition programs. State and local buyers under this code source buckwheat as a component of meal planning and food provisioning for K–12 school systems. School districts are the dominant issuing bodies soliciting under this code, with procurement activity driven by annual school nutrition program food bids and cooperative purchasing vehicles that aggregate demand across multiple districts to achieve volume pricing and simplified vendor management.

Recent activity centers in Georgia, where the Butts County School System issued an IFB for food products to support its School Nutrition Program for School Year 2026–2027, with a bid submission deadline of May 26, 2026, and the Douglas County School System issued RFP SN 26-004 through the GEC Buying Cooperative for fresh produce and eggs serving 30 school districts across two geographic areas, with approximately $5.5 million in estimated annual spending and a March 4, 2026 proposal deadline. Both solicitations reflect the standard school nutrition procurement cycle—annual or multi-year contracts running July 1 through June 30, line-item pricing tied to USDA or commodity market reports, Buy American compliance requirements, and awards made to responsive and responsible bidders on a lowest-cost basis, often to multiple vendors. School nutrition procurement in this commodity area typically includes compliance certifications for federal nutrition standards, HACCP requirements, and debarment verification for contracts exceeding federal thresholds.
